$2 Million in School Contingency Funds
Council discussed adding language to the budget ordinance to recover money from the schools budget if state funding exceeds the local adopted amount. Snook suggested skipping it when the amount is under $1 million.
Village School addition and 3rd Street NE crosswalk
The Village School wants an outdoor sports court and classroom, plus a new crosswalk and street art on 3rd Street NE. The board liked the idea but suggested rethinking astroturf, keeping the historic railings, and slowing traffic near the crosswalk.
Early Learning Center design at Walker campus
Three design schemes for the new early learning center ranged from $42.5M to $60.8M. The working group recommends Scheme C — the Rosehill adaptation with a new gym — at $51.4 million.
School resource officer program rollout
Two newly selected SROs — one for the middle school, one for the high school — are new to the role and still training. The board wants to meet the officers, possibly invite the superintendent in July, and review the memorandum of understanding, which it flagged as too vague on issues like physical contact and calling for backup.
